Fattening, cattle markets, reproduction, transhumance, slaughter, animal production requires the daily transport of more than a million live animals on the European road network.

Animals well transported

Whether it concerns, among other things, the collection of animals from farms (the most numerous of which are small farms), the maintenance of livestock activities in certain areas, or the viability of slaughterhouses in areas of low production, the transport of live animals is a reality which contributes to many socio-economic balances.

Therefore, it is essential to guarantee the best comfort to the animals during these trips. Transport has therefore benefited from all the improvements and technical progress of recent decades: pneumatic suspensions, progressive braking and acceleration systems.

At the same time, professionals have implemented specific training for driver-conveyors on the organization of loading and unloading, on the care to be given to animals during transport and on the handling of livestock vehicles.

Since January 1, 2007, this training has become compulsory and driver conveyors must hold a certificate of fitness for the transport of live animals issued by the Ministry of Agriculture (Regulation EC 1/2007).
