The growth of children depends largely on the quality of their food. Managing the child’s diet has several objectives: to ensure harmonious growth and optimal brain development, to try to feed future adults in order to provide them with the best health capital in the short and long term … all respecting everyone’s tastes and playing the food variety card.
Distribution and composition of meals in children
It is necessary to divide the energy intake into 4 meals per day.
For children, breakfast is the first real meal of the day. The base of this one will ideally be composed of a cereal product (bread, brioche, cereals …), a dairy product (milk, yogurt, fromage blanc …) of a fruit or a juice fresh fruit, all of which can be accompanied by a little jam or honey and butter, depending on taste. In any case, a drink is essential to hydrate the body.
Very often as they grow up, children lose the habit of eating breakfast. You have to organize yourself differently in order to make this meal more attractive, and use your imagination to vary the pleasures.
For lunch and dinner, the basic structure will be as follows: a starter (raw vegetables …), a main dish (meat or equivalent with vegetables and / or starchy foods), a dairy product, a dessert (favoring fruit ) and bread. This structure thus allows the adequate supply of nutrients.
The snack or 4th meal will be an opportunity to favor cereal products, dairy products and fruit.
It should be taken as far as possible from the other two meals.
We will not forget, of course, to accompany each of these meals with a drink, ideally water, an essential element for our body.
Finally, whether it is breakfast, lunch or dinner, diversity is essential to a balanced diet. It helps develop the senses and promotes the evolution of taste.
